Whitechapel Centre Given Spring Makeover by Structec and Halton Housing Trust
Structec and Halton Housing Trust recently joined forces to come to the aid of the Liverpool City Whitechapel Centre, which provides valuable support to homeless and vulnerable people in Merseyside, particularly rough sleepers and people at risk of homelessness.
Structec and the Trust decided they could provide valuable assistance and expertise by means of sprucing up the Centre in readiness the spring period. Both organisations’ maintenance teams volunteered to spend a day helping to transform the Centre’s outdoor areas by landscaping the entrance, tidying the car park, pruning, and carrying out tree-related work.
Dianne Sorensen, facilities manager at the Whitechapel Centre said: “We really appreciate the work carried out by Structec and the Trust. Our focus is, of course, on the people we are helping so our buildings and surroundings don’t often get smartened up and the gardens were really in need of some care. The work has set us up for the spring and we’re looking forward to seeing everything start to bloom.”
John Maddox, Operations Manager at Structec, also commented: “Our company has always had a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility, and as such we are continually looking for new ways of supporting the communities in which we work.
“We recently approached the Whitechapel Centre and asked how we could get involved with the fantastic work they do to help some of the most vulnerable people in our society. Carrying out some essential repairs and grounds maintenance was a fantastic opportunity to work collaboratively with one of our longest standing clients and to provide some valuable team-work experience for our young trainees. The day was a great success for Structec, Halton Housing Trust and most importantly, The Whitechapel Centre.”
Christine Walker, the Halton Housing Trust’s Environmental Services Manager, was thrilled to get involved. She said: “Our grounds maintenance team enjoyed working alongside Structec to give the Whitechapel Centre a landscaping tidy over in preparation for spring. It was great to see everyone pulling together on what had to be one of the coldest days of the year.”
