Ensuring a culture of safe working and regular Health and Safety training.

At Structec, safe working is at the forefront of our building and maintenance operations. We are highly compliant to the health and safety requirement for public works with a Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) Registration. This accreditation verifies our safe working practices as does our Membership of Constructionline (Registration Number 57935).

WE EMPLOY our own experienced and highly qualified Health and Safety Manager to ensure that we have a 'Zero Accident' culture and a workforce that is extensively trained in safety subjects that include, but not limited to:-

  • General Health and Safety duties and legislation;
  • Workplace Risk Assessments;
  • Manual and safe handling knowledge and techniques;
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH);
  • Asbestos related awareness and hazards;
  • Use of cutting and grinding tools and equipment;
  • Fire Safety Awareness Training.

The company maintains a Training Matrix to record the health and safety qualifications and certificates held by our employees.

Our approach to achieve safe systems of work ensures that the health and safety credentials of our workforce are systematically renewed and enhanced as part of our commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

Environmental Management

Committed to reducing our carbon footprint.

Structec operates from modern, purpose built, thermally efficient offices at the North Mersey Business Centre, Kirkby. A key business aim is to carry out building and maintenance services that have the minimum impact on our customers, their surroundings and the wider environment.

We are an ISO14001 Environmental Management certified company with procedures and practices to reduce our:-

  • use of energy derived from fossil fuels;
  • carbon emissions from our fleet;
  • other impacts on the environment from our building services.

The company therefore purchases materials from Builder's Merchants and suppliers that can verify the sustainable origins of their products, especially any timber based goods.

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY and business systems ensure we use a Licensed Waste Carrier and we monitor monthly all our activities to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. Our average audited return for 2018 demonstrates that 78% of waste that previously would have gone to landfill is now recycled. A copy of our current Environmental Policy is available on request.

Over the past five years, we have dramatically reduced the amount of waste going to landfill, using such measures as, returning pallets, recycling 'shrinkwrap packaging' as well as waste segregation by category and to separate containers.
